Jail Bait: 17 & Life

Jail Bait: 17 & Life

Jail Bait is primarily set in a juvenile correctional facility.  We shot this dramatic feature on the Red Scarlet with two Optimo DP zooms.

These zooms were perfect for this shoot, and contributed quite a lot to the visual style.  It became a signature move to slowly zoom in on our action during key moments.

This show was all about “movement”, embracing a wide variety in the styles of camera movement.

This story was filled with fights and riots.  When we weren’t zooming, I pretty much lived on a slider.  We also incorporated handheld, steadicam, and two different kinds of jib work.

IMG_20130914_140145_640I rated the Scarlet between 400 – 800, very rarely needing to dip down to 1280 for particularly challenging lighting scenarios (such as tight spaces, needing very small units, where no “practical sources” could exist within the scene).

I owe a huge thanks to my crew:  Ben Iker, Brian Glenn, Sebastian Angulo, Randy Garcia, Walker Forshee, Yoshi Isomura, Kenneth Chernow, John Mijares, JD Ramage, Ruth West, and Allison Torres !
