P90X through the Holidays?

P90X through the Holidays?

Tough Love Fit Blog - 60 Day Challenge, Laura Beth LoveWhy Now?  Holidays? Am I an Idiot?

When P90X 3 arrived in the mail, I was excited!  And then I realized that if I started now, it would mean I was doing P90X through the WORST possible time of the year.  The HOLIDAYS are already here!  Month1 will be leading up to Thankgiving, Month 2 will go up until Christmas, and then Month 3 will go through the New year.  That’s not right, I thought, that’s HORRIBLE.  Those are all of the times when you know you are going to go off your diet.  Those are the times you’ll have the most parties, you’ll see the most clever little desserts offered to you, it’s just the worst time to be doing a workout “thing” and of all things P90X?!?!?  Why blow it on a time you know won’t be 100%?  Aren’t I setting myself up to fail?  This is the WORST time.

Or is it…

I told myself that I just needed to suck it up. I’d have to commit to the holidays really only being THREE DAYS and not a-season-long-holiday-time-of-eating as I usually LIKE to reserve the option of doing…

But as I was watching a few P90X videos, specifically one that I saw from a guy in the test group…  I found a different take on it.  This schlubby guy did P90X3 and looked pretty good after 90 days, but he looked fucking SICK after 180 days.  He finished his 90, then turned right back around and did it again, and the results compounded.

I don’t know why, but I had been looking at P90X as a sort of one trick pony.  Like the claim was 90 days, so you’ll get what you get in 90 days.  You are supposed to go from “whatever” to RIPPED in 90 days… or else you didn’t do it right, or your genetics are weird, or whatever.  I hadn’t considered that the workouts are so easily adjustable for your relative weight and fitness levels that OF COURSE you can continue to progress, even by cycling through the same program multiple times.

It’s so obvious to me now, yet I had the complete opposite view in my head.  So, if I accept that I’m probably going to complete the P90X program 2 or even 3 times before I say that I’ve really “done P90X3” to completion, then fuck yeah, let’s get started right away.  And over the holidays? even better.  I’ll bust my ass in the workouts and do my best with the food.  One things for sure, i’ll come out of this holiday season a hell of a lot farther along on my fitness journey than I would have if I DIDN’T commit to an intense 90 day workout regimen straight through it.  🙂

So idiot or genius?  I’m gonna go with genius.  🙂

I may still have a few holiday cookies and I’ll enjoy Thanksgiving dinner without regrets.  But I’m not going to miss a workout, and I’ll take this 90 day cycle to completion and see where I stand.

It’s not too late to join me!  You’ve got New Year’s resolutions coming up…

I’m also looking ahead to the New Year and planning to do another 10-Day Master Cleanse in February after this round of P90X3.   Things to think about…  See you on the fit game!
